Review: Pixi Black Lacquer Lash Primer

Get Longer Lashes With Pixi's Black Lacquer Lash Primer

I can’t really explain how excited I am to be reviewing anything by Pixi. It’s been top of my cult wish list for an age, and finally I get my hands on some amazing goodies to play with!

Lash primer is something I’ve tried a few times over the years, but it never works out for me. In the mists of time, lash primers were white, waxy, and made your lashes look way too spidery for my taste. And these days mascaras are so good at being both primer and mascara that I haven’t really felt like I needed a separate product. That being said, when I read some reviews about the Pixi Black Lacquer Lash Primer (£15.00), I couldn’t help myself.

What convinced me to try it was the fact that it’s not just a primer. Pixi market this primer as being a real triple threat – it protects, plumps, and defines your lashes. So you can apparently use this product to prep your lashes before your normal mascara; use it on its own as a natural lash tint; or use it after applying mascara to separate the lashes and set them in place. Of course I’ve gone and tried all three of these uses!

The first thing I love about this lash primer, other than the cute packaging, is the comb applicator. Slightly curved and very flexible, the comb wand should really lift and separate your lashes. So, does it?

The short answer is yes, of course it does. Pixi are known for creating products that are well priced and most importantly, work. As a primer, this product definitely helped my lashes hold their curl, stay defined, and they didn't seem to clump together as much as they might usually have.

I also felt like the super slim comb applicator made it really easy to keep my lashes fanned out, which makes them look a lot fuller and more even. And to top it off, the Black Lacquer Lash Primer is perfect for the lower lash line as it is such a thin wand. Every single teeny tiny lash was defined, including those on the inner most corners.

As a lash tint, as you'll see from the image below, it's really great for just lightly defining the lashes and I would definitely wear this on a no makeup day to open up my eyes.

This image shows my natural lashes, then the middle picture is of just the Primer, and the bottom is with a layer of mascara added. You can really see the difference once there's mascara and primer. My eyes suddenly look awake!

As a layer over the mascara, I have to admit it didn't make much of a difference to my lashes. It seemed like a great idea, but the change in definition just wasn't there. I think partly this might be because it's a thin formula and very lightweight.  But all in all I'm really impressed with this little bottle; I think for the most part it does what it's advertised as doing, and I think for the price it's a great little piece to have in your kit.

Have you tried this lash primer? Let me know!
