The Savoy Saccharum Hotel Madeira Review

Blogging Gals Stay At The Savoy Saccharum Hotel

Savoy Hotel

Where do I start with this review guys? One word to sum up this trip, INCREDIBLE... I'm just so sad to be back now! So last week, I embarked on a trip to Madeira with Sincerely Oghosa and was invited to stay at the Savoy Saccharum hotel which is about one hour away from Funchal airport. We landed in Madeira just after 11am so although our trip was a short one (4 days), it didn't really feel as short because of the early arrival.

First Impressions

From the first step we'd taken into the hotel, we were just stunned by the beauty of it all and could not stop looking at the decor. From marble desks, to a piano and grand stairs. I took the opportunity to take a few pictures, snapchats - you know how we bloggers do!

As we walked up to the reception desk, we were kindly greeted by the hotel staff who were super friendly and let us know how everything works at the Savoy Saccharum. Many compliments to Joe who helped us weigh our luggage, talked us through emergency exits and even educated us on Madeira, South Africa (where he lived for many years), and even handed us some maps/list of things to do whilst in Maderia.

We then headed for the lifts and up to the 6th floor to check out our room...

Rooms

Once we landed on the 6th floor we strolled through the corridor and headed on into our room. May I add the security of this hotel is so good, you cannot go anywhere without the use of your room key in the lifts!

Rooms are a great size for two people, where you'll find a huge landscape mirror (great for us girls getting ready), separate shower/toilet, a large double bed, TV complete with channels in English, German, and Portuguese - and other expected facilities. The bed was SUPER comfortable, you're equipped with the fluffiest pillows and a mattress that is just as comfy. Honestly, no matter how great a hotel is I always find a fault in the rooms cleanliness, this hotel however, had no fault whatsoever.

Onto our balcony, we enjoyed our beautiful sea balcony view where we'd often take a moment to take in our surroundings. I have to make this point, even the balcony was perfect for flat lays and selfies haha!

* We stayed in the Double Sea View Room

Food

As part of our complimentary stay with the Savoy Saccharum we were given the opportunity to have breakfast each morning, which we did without fail. Breakfast for me was just perfect with choices such as;
  • Full English Breakfast
  • Pancakes & Omelettes
  • Cereal
  • Variety of fruits & cheeses
  • Tea, Coffee making facilities & juices
  • Fresh breads & cakes

Twice we dined in the breakfast room and outdoor by the pool also overlooking the sea and mountains - a truly breathtaking experience...

During sunny afternoons, we'd relax by the pool and order order some goodies from the snack bar. I went for a mozzerella & pesto salad about two times and Oghosa went for this Apple Pie that she was obsessed with (It was that good she had it twice in one day!).

The night before we left, we decided to stay in and dine at the hotels A La Carte restaurant which was a lovely little place. We had some sort of hearty chicken casserole that was bursting with flavour. Unfortunately for us, we came out to dinner late so couldn't finish our generous amount of food. We were literally falling asleep at the table haha and did regret not finishing it all the next day... (oops).

* We received a whole pot of chicken and potatoes as part of our meal costing just under 30 euros.
* This meal could easily feed four (we had seconds, with lots left over)
* Pre-meal you are given some appetisers (pictured above) - bread with garlic spread.

Service

Second to none. From the moment we arrived as mentioned above we were embraced by the hotel staff who knew we were there to review the hotel. Joe, (again mentioned above) deserves some sort of reward because he really works hard and is one of the kindest people I've ever met.

Room service was great too, our rooms were cleaned daily and we were given new towels as and when we requested them. As we were on the 6th floor, our rooms were cleaned at about 12pm each day.

Facilities

First up, the free wifi running throughout the hotel which meant that I could stay in touch with the Blogging Gals team, look over our social media pages and keep my followers in the loop of my travels. Even when we left the hotel and walked 5 minutes up the road, we were still connected which was rather cool.

The swimming pools were of course one of my favourite features in the hotel, especially the infinity pool. 😍 The pool overlooked the sea and mountains so was very picturesque and overall an excellent place to realx the mind, body and soul. The hotel also has another pool which I presume was a kids pool and another featured in the spa. I didn't use the spa's pool but I did use the jacuzzi, hammam and sauna.

The Savoy Saccharum takes relaxation to a whole new level.

Calheta Beach Hotel

During our stay, we were invited to dine at Calheta Beach Hotel which we decided to do on the first night. Calheta Beach is the sister hotel of the Savoy Saccharum and only a 10 minute walk down the road.

Whilst Oghosa and I waited to be taken down to the restaurant, we thought it'd be a good idea to take some mirror selfies as this hotel was so bright. As you can probably tell by our hotel, the main colours used throughout are browns/greens and beiges which aid to the whole 'earthy' theme.

As mentioned above we were invited to dine at Calheta Beach's buffet restaurant where you can expect to find a variety of fresh foods on offer. I helped myself to the pesto pasta a number of times which I currently miss and will be recreating at home as part of my new 'healthy diet' (let's see how long this lasts). We did also help ourselves to some dessert after... On offer a variety of cakes, ice-cream and fruit.

Overall, I had a wonderful time at the Savoy Saccharum  hotel and would love to be back here again. I cannot believe that this hotel is rated only 4 stars as it's possibly the best hotel I've EVER stayed in!

I'll be uploading some of my outfits to www.zeenaxena.com along with things to do in Madeira just in case any of you would like to visit!

To book this hotel, book directly through www.savoyresorts.com/savoysaccharum where you are guaranteed to find the best prices for the resort. Many thanks to the Savoy Hotel team for having us vsit - we had a truly memorable experience!
